Leo Mores (1938) started his newspaper career as a carrier for the Des Moines Register in the eighth grade and continued through high school at the Seymour Herald. After college, he worked as advertising manager at the Rockwell City Advocate. Six months later, he co-purchased the Harlan Tribune. Mores purchased Harlan’s competing newspaper, the News-Advertiser in 1945. Under his guidance, the newspapers won more than 225 state and national publishing awards and were one of the first Iowa newspapers to adopt offset printing and desktop publishing.
