William E. Ames (1952) is the author of The History of the National Intelligencer, a definitive history of the first and most influential newspaper in Washington D.C. until 1869. The book was awarded Kappa Tau Alpha’s Mott Award for research. Ames taught journalism at Iowa State from 1949 to 1952 and from 1954 to 1957. He was a longtime journalism professor at the University of Washington.
