In his own words: Originally from Des Moines, I studied journalism and minored in political science at Iowa State University. I first tried to be a rock star, touring and recording part-time during my first couple years at ISU, but dropped that after a few years to focus on journalism. After graduating, I went on to study in a continuing studies program at Georgetown University and did a brief stint at the *National Journal* before heading to New York City to work for *The Huffington Post*.
