David Chivers is a strategic consultant, executive advisor, coach, speaker and writer. In addition to consulting with technology and consumer organizations, he partners with the Facebook Journalism Project to help local news and media organizations from across the globe to accelerate business-model and newsroom innovation.
David has built his career in digital innovation, marketing, audience development, media and product management. He is the former president for Register Media and The Des Moines Register. He also served as regional president for the USA TODAY NETWORK, which included financial and strategic oversight for the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
Prior to joining The Des Moines Register and Gannett, David was chief digital officer at Jostens, which sells high school and college yearbooks and class rings, as well as championship sports rings, medals and trophies. He has worked for The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch and Meredith Corporation.
David earned an undergraduate degree from Central College, M.B.A. from the University of Iowa, M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, and an executive certificate in Strategy and Innovation from M.I.T.
He is a Des Moines native, and his first job was delivering The Des Moines Register as a young boy. David and his wife, Theresa, reside in Des Moines with their two children.
